Announcement: The 14th Symposium on Road Bridge Deck Slabs

In October 2025, the Steel Structures Committee established the “Subcommittee on Research into Maintenance and Design Methods for Highway Bridge Decks” (Chair: Keigo Kubo, Miyaji Engineering) as the eighth technical subcommittee dedicated to highway bridge decks. The subcommittee is conducting research activities over a period of approximately three years.
The subcommittee is investigating (1) the latest technologies related to inspection and assessment, waterproofing and pavement, repair and strengthening, and concrete bridge deck pavement; and (2) design methods, including steel girder strengthening methods for bridge deck replacement and performance verification-based design methods for precast deck joints. The findings are scheduled to be compiled into a “Manual for Maintenance of Highway Bridge Decks Considering Pavement and Waterproofing.”
Although the subcommittee’s activities are still ongoing, the 14th Symposium on Highway Bridge Decks will be held to share the latest research and technologies related to highway bridge deck design methods, new materials and technologies, inspection and diagnosis, repair and strengthening, deterioration and damage cases, maintenance and asset management, and other related topics. Researchers, engineers, students, and other interested participants from relevant organizations are cordially invited to attend, as detailed below.

* There is no fee for paper submission; however, presenters are also required to pay the registration fee. General participation without a presentation is also welcome.
* The registration fee includes a DVD containing the Proceedings of the 14th Symposium on Highway Bridge Decks.
